Our Purpose-
We would like to inform Shanghai American School Pudong of the fact that migrant schools in China are closing because of financial problems. You may say to yourself, “Only migrant schools are closing, it isn’t a big deal. Why should we care?” Well migrant students aren’t allowed to attend local public schools because they aren’t local residents of the village. Therefore special organizations help build migrant schools for these students. We, as a whole community, can help make a difference by raising money for Compassion for Migrant Children. Who then will use the money we have donated and help keep the schools there are right now.
Our Message-
We believe that all children deserve a right to be educated, whether they are migrant children or local children. This factor shouldn’t affect whether they are able to learn or not. Even though a lot of children are being limited to have an education, we are determined to make a change to that. All of us are going to raise money by having fundraisers in order to keep all the schools in China right now. After our presentation our goal is to have everyone know about this and convince you to help make a difference. But keep in mind if all of us are receiving an education, why shouldn’t they?
Our Short Term Plan-
We would like to raise money for Compassion for Migrant Children by having fundraisers. We will have all different kinds of fundraising. For example, bake sales, marathons, banquets, possibly a carnival. All these different kinds of fundraising will hopefully get us a certain amount of money to be donated to Compassion for Migrant Children. Also we would like everyone to know about this issue after our presentation. We would also like everyone to know that they can do something about this issue.
Our Long Term Plan-
Even after we finish this project Tessa and I decided we are still going to help change the fact that a lot of migrant students aren’t able to attend schools. Next year in high school we are going to join Habitat for Humanity. It is a program in high school that goes around Asia trying to make it a better place for the less privileged and poor places. Maybe we can suggest the coordinator to build some migrant schools in smaller and less populated cities. We are able to be apart of Habitat for Humanity for our 4 years in high school. And we are positive we can most definitely make a difference in the world, at least in Asia.
Plan for Achieving the our Short-Goals Stage 1
Raise money here at Shanghai American School, in which we donate money to Compassion for Migrant Children so they can continue supporting migrant schools in China. Also to create awareness about migrant schools in China that are closing.
We will:
· Earning money to donate to Compassion for Migrant Children, an organization that helps support migrant schools in China
· Educate the students on Shanghai American School about migrant students and how their schools are closing down and what we can do to help
By:
· Having yearly fundraiser, in which we donate all the money we receive to Compassion for Migrant Children
· Talking to elementary and middle school students about migrant schools and migrant children
· Creating blogs about our success in raising money and educating Shanghai American School students about this issue
· The middle school newspaper and Parent Talk Stage 2
We will work towards getting our community to do these things:
· Local and expat people in Shanghai can start up an organization here in Shanghai that focuses purely on migrant schools and migrant students.
· Having all the students at SAS sign up for a GIN (Global Issues Network) account and share their thoughts and feelings on current global issues today Stage 3
To give a successful and education presentation about migrant schools and their students, and to also raise awareness about how important this issue is and what we as a community can do to help Stage 4
As we are going into high school next year, we can to go on one of the Habitat for Humanity trips, and are planning to suggest a trip focused on building a school for migrant students in Shanghai, China.
